Case 335142<\/em><\/strong>:\nThe Phantom Flushing Toilet<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

(Based on a true story, names have been changed to protect the innocent.) <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Stacey and Wil moved into a 24-year-old\nhome. It was their first home and they were eager to spend their first night in\ntheir new home. After a calm evening consisting of their favorite movie and lots\nof buttery popcorn, Stacey and Wil fell asleep exhausted from the move. <\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n

Stacey awoke to hear the toilet\nflushing. She shifted over sleepily to find Wil sleeping soundly beside her.\nShe listened horrified as the toilet tank was filling and elbowed Wil. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Will stirred, \u201cWhat is it?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThe toilet flushed by itself,\u201d\nwhispered Stacey. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThat\u2019s ridiculous,\u201d sighed Wil. \u201cYou were probably dreaming. Go back to sleep, tomorrow is a long day.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Stacey protested but soon rolled\nover and succumbed to her fatigue\u2014no further sound came from the bathroom. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The next day at 3 a.m., both Stacey and Wil were dead asleep. There was no sound in the house when, suddenly, the whoosh of the toilet flushing woke them both. They sat up bolt upright and looked at each other. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cGo see what is going on,\u201d\nbreathed Stacey. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cDo you think I really want to\nsee some ghost on the toilet? No way.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Again, as the toilet filled they listened, but neither of them moved till the reassuring light of morning gave them strength. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

As the morning light poured through the curtains, Stacey tried to ease her nerves with something familiar. She pulled out her phone and took a scroll through her Facebook posts and saw Ace Plumbing being recommended by a friend. So she set up an appointment for a technician to come out. They set up a time so that Wil could be there too and that hopefully the two of them could convince the technician that they weren\u2019t crazy. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

When the technician arrived, he\nlistened to Stacey and Wil tell their story. Wil thought for sure the\ntechnician would roll his eyes and dismiss their concerns. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Instead, their technician looked at them knowingly and said, \u201cThis is not as uncommon as you may expect, and you are not alone thinking your toilet was haunted. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

He explained that the problem\nstemmed from a leak in the toilet tank. Stacey and Wil looked at each other in\ndisbelief. Other people had had this problem too and survived. They decided to\nreplace the phantom flushing toilet and thanked the technician. They knew they\nwould now be able to sleep soundly ever after. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
