What Is Water Testing and Why Do I Need It?

If you suspect that the water source coming to your home is contaminated or has particularly high mineral content, you may want to get it tested. It’s actually a good idea to invest in water testing no matter what, just to understand your water quality.

If you’ve never had water testing in Calgary, you can give our team a call to schedule your appointment. After we take a water sample and complete the testing, we can go over the report with you so you understand what it all means. Then we can offer solutions like water filters and water softeners to improve the quality of water in your home. You can keep reading to learn more about why you might want to invest in water testing.

Water Testing

When we perform a water test, we come to your home and take a sample of the water directly from one of your faucets. Then we send the sample off to a lab for testing. The results of the test will tell you about the different substances that are in your water and at what levels.

For example, if you have hard water then your water may have higher than normal mineral content. But there’s also a chance that there are chemicals and other dangerous compounds in your water, too.

Sure, there’s a water treatment facility that is cleaning and filtering the water for homes in your area, but it can only do so much. Water testing is an opportunity to know exactly what’s in your water, even in the tiniest amounts. You deserve to know what you are drinking. We can even compare the data from your water test to data from the local area to see how it matches up.

Hard Water

You may have heard of hard and soft water. Soft water has low mineral content, while hard water has high mineral content. If you have hard water, you may not even realize it. You cannot see or even taste these minerals, but they can pose problems for your home’s plumbing system.

Even though the minerals are very tiny, they can build up in your pipes, water heater, and other water appliances in your home. These minerals can block water flow, keep heating elements from working effectively and lead to corrosion. Water testing is a good way to know how high your mineral content is. It can also help us determine what type of water filter you need for your home.

Contaminants

It’s also possible for your water to have contaminants such as chemicals and pollution. Most of the time these contaminants are found in very low levels of your water, but is that really acceptable at all? Ideally, you want absolutely nothing harmful in your water.

After all, you’re drinking it, bathing in it, and washing your dishes and clothes in it. Even though pollution may seem very insignificant, over time those contaminants can add up in your body. Many contaminants lead to health problems including reproductive issues, neurological disorders, and a higher likelihood of getting sick.

Solutions

If you do schedule a water test and find out that your water has higher mineral or contaminant levels than you are comfortable with, our team can help you choose a whole house water filtration system. It’s a great way to protect your home’s plumbing system from corrosion as well as protecting your health. A whole house water filtration system filters water before it ever enters your home, having a positive effect on your water appliances in addition to your health.
